spark list loose scroll

Air mobile app, designed to work on iphone and ipad. To size correctly all the elements, on app startup I check the screen size and set the width and height of some components. I have a spark list with custom item renderer, if I change the verticalgap of the tilelayout of this list, the list stop scrolling. Any ideas?
